A striking pair of vintage carved timber Elephant bookends, beautifully sculpted in solid teak. Each elephant is carved in strong, rounded form with sweeping trunks and curved tusks, standing firmly on substantial rectangular bases. The warm brown timber has developed a rich, natural patina over time, enhancing the sculptural quality of the carving and highlighting the grain. The eyes and toenails are inset in contrasting material, adding character and definition to the design. These bookends have wonderful presence whether displayed with books or as decorative objects in their own right. Well proportioned and solidly made, they are both practical and highly decorative.
