A Vintage Pocket Compass Sundial in Bronze with Leather Case

A vintage bronze Compass with integrated Sundial, complete with protective leather case. This finely crafted instrument combines navigation and timekeeping in one beautifully engineered piece. The sundial arm pivots securely on opposing north and south pins, with firm hinges and crisp movement throughout. Engraved directional markings are sharply detailed and filled with black enamel, enhancing both clarity and visual appeal. To operate, press the outer button to release the cover and reveal the compass. Once aligned correctly to the hemisphere, the lid is closed and the gnomon raised vertically. The shadow cast across the engraved chapter ring indicates the approximate hour and minute divisions. Both practical and fascinating, it is a wonderful example of traditional portable instrumentation. Condition is excellent, with a clear glass lens and a soft, even aged patina to the bronze. The leather case, likely a later addition, is well suited and in keeping with the period. An inscription to the reverse reads: “I hope today is the beginning of a great year for you.
