A fantastic Art Nouveau Childs Rocking Chair by Thonet of Austria, in excellent condition for age. Bentwood pieces by this Internationally famous maker, especially for children, rarely survived to the current day, as they usually disappeared into professional Collections. There were much less Children’s furniture manufactured than that for Adults. This piece shows evidence that the rattan was once padded and in later times, the Rattan was possibly replaced, explain why the existing woven cane is in such excellent condition, and the bentwood can barely be criticized for the 90 years plus. The original paper “Thonet” label is intact, partly covered by a later, short curved bentwood reinforcement at the rear to the front seat support. There is slight separation of spliced bends at rear, left and right, from timber shrinkage, but all is structurally sound and definitely could take a lot of childhood use.
