This Soviet Corn Yellow Chick Clock is a charming example of mid-20th-century Russian design, crafted from Carbolite (Bakelite) with sleek black trim. Featuring black Arabic numerals on the dial and manufactured by SLAVA, the clock is powered by an 11-jewel movement and includes all original controls. The design incorporates an alarm stop lever at the top rear and a time adjustment lever, making it functional as well as visually appealing. The dial is marked “Made in USSR”, indicating it predates the 1957 change to CCCP, adding to its historical significance. Despite its age, the clock is in near mint condition, with no visible marks or damage—only a soft age patina that enhances its vintage character. Remarkably, it keeps excellent time for its era, with only a few minutes’ variance per day, reflecting the technology of its time when clocks served as time guides rather than precision instruments. Russian clockmaking has a rich history, dating back to 1404 with the creation of the first mechanical clock in Russia, well before Switzerland’s prominence in the field. This legacy is reflected in the quality and design of this piece, which also pays homage to Russia’s role in introducing mechanical clocks to China. Measuring approximately 10.1cm high, 9.2cm wide, and 3.5cm deep (including adjustment levers), with a dial face diameter of 5cm, the clock has a total mass of 174.9 grams. This is an exceptional example of Soviet-era craftsmanship, perfect for collectors of vintage clocks or mid-century design enthusiasts. A wonderful piece of functional history, this clock brings a touch of nostalgia and timeless charm to any collection.
