A Rare Art Deco French Jaccard Freres Travel Clock with Original Case

An outstanding rare vintage travel clock by Jaccard Freres with original shagreen case and remarkable history. French Modernism travel clock with glass face and jewelled 8-day movement with alarm. Gold gilt brass case with black enamel broad rim, three central gilt grooved bands and tapering cylindrical feet. Original sharkskin outer with tight bronze satin lining. Marked to rear MADE IN FRANCE over JACCARD FRERES. Mechanical wind-up movement is in excellent condition and keeps good time. Presentation is almost as new with only the slightest age patina under the feet and minor handling marks on outer rim from many decades of use. Jaccard were renowned for intricate clocks, musical alarms and music boxes since the early 1800s near the French/Swiss border, later evolving through the US branch in St Louis prior to 1849 and eventually Mermod, Jaccard & Co in 1873, before final closure in 1969. Dimensions approx: face 6.2cm diameter; 6.5cm high x 3cm deep maximum; mass 174.2gm. Case 6.5cm wide x 6.7cm wide x 3.8cm deep. Total mass in case 202.5gm. Jaccard Freres. France Circa 1920.
