Our Dragonfly Katana embodies the essence of what makes a katana truly remarkable. With a distinct and original design, this katana features a slimmer, lighter blade that is meticulously hand-forged and folded. The blade is crafted from a blend of T-10 and 1055 steels, which creates a striking contrast between the layers. When polished, this steel combination reveals a beautifully visible hada, showcasing the craftsmanship and depth of the fold. The dragonfly holds deep symbolism for the Samurai. Its swift, tireless movement mirrored the Samurai’s unwavering dedication to his feudal lord. In homage to this symbolism, the katana’s fittings are expertly antiqued to replicate the look of aged iron, enhancing the overall authenticity. The tsuba design is made from iron, with a copper inlaid dragonfly that contrasts elegantly against the weathered iron, adding both beauty and meaning to the piece. The craftsmanship of these fittings is a testament to the meticulous attention to detail. The dark brown silk ito wraps the tsuka, beautifully complemented by the black samegawa (ray skin), making this katana truly unique. The lower shinogi (ridge) and minimal hira-niku (flat portion) contribute to a blade that is not only lighter and faster but also experiences less resistance when cutting through soft targets. The tsuka features a slight “waisting” (ryūgo), a design element favored by practitioners of traditional Japanese swordsmanship, providing both comfort and control.
